Toronto, Ontario — General Motors dealership technicians ought to brush up on their headlight repair procedures, as a recall recently issued by the OEM will see about 85,000 Canadian Buick, Cadillac, GMC and Chevrolet vehicles headed in for a body control module (BCM) software update.
The recall, which covers an additional 740,000 vehicles across North America, was issued in response to a defect in some recent-year models that could cause a vehicle’s daytime running lights (DRLs) to stay on even while the headlights are switched on.
Canadian regulations require that DRLs deactivate when main headlights are switched on.
Reports have since come in to Transport Canada, who first filed the recall on Dec. 8, saying that the defect causes glare that could dangerously obscure the vision of oncoming drivers.
The models identified to be affected by the recall are as follows:
- Buick Envision: 2021, 2022, 2023
- Cadillac CT4: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
- Cadillac CT5: 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
- Cadillac Escalade: 2022, 2023
- Cadillac Escalade ESV: 2022, 2023
- Chevrolet Silverado: 2022, 2023
- Chevrolet Suburban: 2022, 2023
- Chevrolet Tahoe: 2022, 2023
- GMC Sierra: 2022, 2023
- GMC Yukon: 2022, 2023
- GMC Yukon XL: 2022, 2023
