Eyes Peeled: London police seek assistance in identifying Sept. 18 fatal hit-and-run driver

LondonHaR

London, Ontario — London police are calling on the community and local auto body shops to keep their eyes peeled for a vehicle that has been linked to a September hit-and-run incident that took the life of 29-year-old Fanshawe College student Jibin Benoy.

According to London Police, and the CBC, witnesses claim there were multiple people in the vehicle that struck Benoy as he walked home from work on Hamilton Road on Sept. 18.

A second still image of the suspect vehicle was released by police on Thursday, in the hopes that someone who was in that area around 4 a.m. on Sept. 18 can provide additional information.

The police described the vehicle at the time as a blue two-door sedan with a loud muffler.

It is estimated that the vehicle likely suffered significant damage to the front end, hood and windshield in the incident. As such, auto body repairers in the area should be wary of vehicles fitting that description coming in for repairs.

According to the CBC, Benoy was in his second year at Fanshawe College studying operations management. He had moved from Kerala, India, and was planning to bring his wife to London to start a life together in Canada.

Police are asking anyone with information about the car or the collision to come forward. They can call the London Police Service at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be sent online anonymously to London Elgin Middlesex Crime Stoppers.
