Oshawa, Ontario The Canadian Automotive Museum is set to open up on July 16 after being closed down for months due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The museum that’s located in Oshawa has one of the most rare and largest collections of automobile’s in the world, as some of the vehicles were only made in Canada like the Redpath Messenger, Tudhope McIntyre, Brooks Steamer and McLaughlin. Alexander Gates, the museum’s curator, says that they have made some significant changes while the museum was on a hiatus.

“We’ve been closed since December, but we made some improvements during our lockdown,” said Gates. “We have new lighting, and bilingual signs for many of the cars. We also have new outdoor murals, and one is going up right now. They’re by the local ‘Signs of Life Placemaking and Mural Project,’ and it’s to let people know we’ve still active and participating in the community, even though we’ve been closed.” (SOURCE Driving.ca)

Also, during the time that they were closed, the Canadian Automotive Museum was reunited with an old friend. The 1914 Brockville Atlas has been brought back to the museum after being loaned out to the Brockville Museum in 1995.

“It’s a fantastic piece of automotive history, and we kept extending the loan for many years,” Gates said. “Now they’re renovating their gallery, so we brought the car back to Oshawa.” (SOURCE Driving.ca)

The museum will be open every Tuesday through to Saturday and museum go-ers still must wear masks and abide by COVID-19 protocols. Tickets can be purchased online at the Canadian Automotive Museum’s website.
