Toronto, Ontario — Joyson Safety Systems’ (JSS) Japan unit said it discovered 1,000 cases of falsified seatbelt test data at two plants it acquired from former airbag maker Takata Corp on Friday.

The investigation began in October 2020 and it showed test data on seat belt webbing were falsified at plants in Hikone, Japan and the Philippines, Hisayoshi Iwamitsu, president of JSS Japan, told reporters.

The investigation found that the test results were altered to meet legal standards.

JSS Japan has submitted the investigation findings to Japan’s transport ministry, Iwamitsu said.

JSS is not planning on issuing a recall, Iwamitsu said. After testing the webbing, no safety problems were identified.

He also said the company has also introduced a new system that would prevent data from getting doctored, and it is also planning to expand its human resources department.
