Toronto, Ontario — August 21, 2019 — 108,399 vehicles are being recalled by Ford due to an apparent faulty seat belt issue that could make them undependable during a crash.
Ford explained that the front-row belts in certain 2015 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ models are suffering due to a heat build-up in the belts’ anchor points. The weakened straps may be unable to keep drivers protected in during an accident.
4,000 vehicles have been recalled in Canada because of the seat belt defect. Transport Canada has mentioned in the past that auto manufacturers struggle to keep tabs on where defected vehicled end up after an issue has been discovered–as a result, it is estimated that up to a quarter of all vehicles on Canadian roads have defects and have been recalled because of them.
So far, only one American has been reportedly injured as a result of the defect, but the recall campaign does not officially start until September 9.
