Toronto, Ontario – The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has awarded 48 new vehicles with Top Safety Picks for 2025.

This most recent data compares to the 71 vehicles named in 2024. For the IIHS, this decrease in Top Safety Picks can be attributed to increased safety requirements and more rigorous testing.

In order to receive a Top Safety Pick, vehicles must earn a ‘Good’ or ‘Acceptable’ rating in all of the collision tests developed by the IIHS as well as in safety technology tests involving technology such as automatic emergency braking (AEB) braking and pedestrian detection.

Tested vehicles are further classified into the following categories:

  • Small cars
  • Midsize cars
