The 2013 Ford Escape, like the one shown here, is on the latest recall list.

Toronto, Ontario — May 12, 2014 — Ford is the latest automaker to ring the recall bell, announcing that it will recall more than 692,000 Escape small SUVs and C-Max gas-electric hybrids in North America to correct two safety problems. Almost 90,000 of the recalled vehicles are in Canada.

A number of car manufacturers have issued recalls so far in 2014 and the later part of 2013. These companies include GM, Nissan, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Chrysler. North American recalls so far in 2014 alone consist of well over 11 million units.

Ford’s latest recalls cover the Escape and C-Max models from thethe 2013 and 2014 model years.

The first issue may stop side airbags from inflating in certain types of rollovers. The fault lies in the software for the airbag control computer.

The second issue involves exterior door handles, which may not latch properly.

No crashes or injuries have been reported at this time as a result of these issues.
