Milton, Ontario — The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB Group) is hosting another round of Skills for Change presentations at its Milton, Ont. headquarters this week. The training sessions are designed to educate newcomers to Canada in the trade of collision repair and provide them with additional knowledge to help enter the workforce, Jean-Marc Julien, collision repair trainer at the facility noted.
The sessions started on Sept. 25 and run through this Friday, Oct. 6. Sessions include portions of training in welding and structural repair/estimating with presentations from 3M, Skilled Trades Ontario and BMW, plus shop visits to automotive manufacturer Modatek and a certified VW repair shop.
This isn’t the first time CWB Group has run such a course. In January 2023, 17 students participated in a pre-apprenticeship program run via the Canadian Collision Repair Academy (CCRA), the CWB Group’s in-house training facility (and Canada’s first OEM-dedicated training centre).
The January session was part of a broader welding program through Humber College. Students were exposed to welding theory and hands-on practice in the CCRA’s bodyshop.
Approximately half the students were interested in a collision repair career at the session’s conclusion.
