Er, Not a Good Time: Heavy rain and wind hits Atlantic Canada, adding additional strain on bodyshops

Halifax, Nova Scotia — Mother Nature could care less about the holidays—and she also doesn’t care that many shops in the Maritime provinces are booking work months in advance. She’s ready to rain on your parade, regardless.

Much of the Maritimes was hit by heavy rain this past Monday, as well as wind gusts of more than 130 km/h. Rainfall warnings were in effect for a sizeable chunk of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Collision Repair magazine reached out to collision centres amid ongoing power outages to see what their experience has been. The consensus? Well…Mother Nature could’ve been more timely.

“The only effects, I feel, will be the additional strain in our areas on over capacity,” Angus Wilson, fixed operations manager at CARSTAR Sydney, told Collision Repair over email. “We’re booking four months out for driveable repairs; and three weeks for estimates. And we’re still not accepting non-drives due to capacity.”

Wilson said he expects most shops in the area will have a similar response.

This is a developing story.
