Economical Insurance, employees raise close to $620,000 for United Way

Waterloo, Ontario — December 22, 2014

Economical Insurance has raised a record-breaking $618,672 through an annual campaign to support United Way.

Running from November 17 to 21, the national fundraiser’s focus was “changing lives,” aiming to connect employee donors with charity recipients—with the company matching employee pledges up to $2,500 dollar-for-dollar.

Economical Insurance President and Chief Executive Officer Karen Gavan says she’s proud of growing employee participation, noting the 11 percent increase in personal pledges over the last two years. The 2014 campaign saw an unprecedented 67 percent of employees involved.

“As a company, we came through in a big way to not only beat our participation target, but exceed the dollars we’d hoped to raise as well. Together, we made company history,” she says. “This wonderful generosity is going to make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of Canadians in need. As a company, we believe one of the best ways to give back to communities where our employees, broker partners and customers live is by giving to United Way.”

The campaign was organized with the help of 132 staff volunteers, assisting with IT support, event planning, games, prizes, departmental ambassadors, opening and closing ceremonies, and communications.
