Cultural tour itinerary announced for NACE 2014

Colleyville, Texas — July 7, 2014 — ASA and NACE | CARS announce the offering of organized technical and historical cultural tours in Detroit. All attendees will have the opportunity to register for any of the nine tours, featuring historic Motor City locations, OEM plant and factory tours, as well as tours of Canada.

Ford Rouge Factory Tour 

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 and  Thursday, July 31, 2014

Time: Board bus at 9 a.m. and depart the COBO Center by 9:15 a.m.. Return to the COBO Center 12:30 p.m.

Destination Info: The Ford Rouge Factory Tour is a five-part experience that includes: Legacy Theatre, Art of Manufacturing Theatre, Observation Deck Tour, Assembly Plant Walking Tour and Legacy Gallery

Tour Price: $25 per person

The Henry Ford Museum

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014, Thursday, July 31, 2014 and Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014

Time: Board bus at 11:45 a.m. and depart the COBO Center at 12 p.m.; return to the COBO Center at 5 p.m.

The Henery Ford Museum and Greenfield Village

Date: Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 and Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014

Time: Board bus at 8:45 a.m. and depart the Cobo Center at 9 a.m.; Return to the Cobo Center at 3 p.m.

Destination Info: Greenfield Village visitors experience 300 years of American history through 83 authentic historic structures, four living-history farms and nationally renowned artists creating one-of-a-kind 19th and 20th-century pieces in pottery, tin and glass. General Motors Onstar Command Center

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 and Thursday, July 31, 2014

Time: Board bus at 12:45 p.m. and depart the COBO Center 1 p.m.; Return to the COBO Center at 2:45 p.m.

Destination Info: Take a tour through the central hub of OnStar operations in Detroit. OnStar has an 18-year history of providing safety, security and connectivity services to customers. Located in the Renaissance Center, the OnStar Command Center documents the company’s evolution over the years, hosts their central operations and showcases some of the latest advancements.

Tour Price: $20

General Motors Heritage Center

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 and Thursday, July 31, 2014

Time: Board bus at 8:30 a.m. and depart the COBO Center at 8:45 a.m.; Return to the COBO Center at 12:30 p.m.

Destination Info: One of the true purposes of the General Motors Heritage Center is to share the history and accomplishments of General Motors, and to inspire ideas for the future. The GM Heritage Center serves as a showplace for the vehicles of the GM Heritage Collection, and as the home of the Heritage and Media Archive. The Collection is made up of approximately 600 cars and trucks.

Tour Price: $20

General Motors Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly (Volt Plant)

Date: Thursday, July 31, 2014 and Saturday, August 2, 2014

Time: Board bus at 7:45 a.m. and depart the COBO Center at 8 a.m.; Return to the COBO Center by 11 a.m.

Destination Info: The tour of GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly begins with an introductory video and brief presentation, then ventures by motorized cart into the plant for a thorough look at the General Assembly area.

Tour Price: $20 per person

Meadow Brook Hall and Chrysler Museum

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014 and Friday, August 1, 2014

Time: Board bus at 8:30 a.m. and depart the COBO Center by 8:45 a.m.; Return to the COBO Center at 4 p.m.

Destination Info: Meadow Brook Hall is the historic home of one the automotive aristocracy’s most remarkable women, Matilda Dodge Wilson, her second husband, lumber broker Alfred Wilson, and their four children. Carefully preserved with original family furnishings and art, the 110-room, 88,000-square-foot mansion is elaborately detailed with carved wood and stone, ornate plaster ceilings, Tiffany stained glass and custom-made hardware, and filled with fine and decorative art. The Walter P. Chrysler Museum opens to a two-story atrium in which a rotating tower majestically showcases the automaker’s iconic concept vehicles. From the atrium, visitors can access two floors of distinctive exhibition galleries and the garage-like atmosphere of the lower level.

Windsor, Canada – 4 hour tour

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Time: Board bus at 12:45 p.m. and depart the COBO Center at 1 p.m.; Return to the COBO Center at 5 p.m.

Destination Info: Take a trip back into time with a visit to Windsor. A professional and entertaining guide will introduce you to some of the rich history of the area. You will experience a tour of the Canadian Club Brand Center, the location made famous by Hiram Walker’s legendary Canadian Club whisky.

Tour Price: $39 per person  

The Sites of Windsor, Canadaa – 6 hour tour

Date: Saturday, August 2, 2014

Time: Board bus at 8:45 a.m. and depart the COBO Center at 9 a.m.; Return to the COBO Center at 3 p.m.

Destination Info: Windsor is rich in both history and the arts. The region’s dedication to preserving and sharing their history is strong and proud. Tour highlights include: The Odette Scultpure Park, Walkerville, Willistead Mansion, and Olde Sandwich Towne.

Tour Price: $44 per person
