Las Vegas, Nevada — November 14, 2017 — 3M’s aftermarket division, in collaboration with the Collision Repair Education Foundation, organized an auction for the hoods designed by the painters of the PPS World Cup competition, which took place in Detroit this summer. The funds raised during the auction were gathered to benefit the 3M ‘Hire our Heroes’ program. The auction ran from October 27th to November 3rd, as part of the SEMA exhibition in Las Vegas.

The hoods were created during the 2017 3M PPS World Cup, held in conjunction with the Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit this summer.  3M invited leading automotive painters from around the world to come to Detroit and participate.  They demonstrated their painting skills with the latest 3M solutions for vehicle painting, including the 3M PPS Series 2.0 Spray Cup System. Click here for more on the new system.

Painters from the United States, Canada, Germany and Australia reunited at the 3M D.E.M.O trailer during this year’s SEMA Show.

The two Canadian painters, Justin Jimmo of Refinish Network in Ontario and Carl-André Giroux of CAGiroux in Quebec, got the chance to catch up with Collision Repair magazine, which eagerly congratulated them on their painting exploits.

“It’s great to be back together again,” said Justin Jimmo. “I was so surprised and glad to see so many of us gathered here at SEMA.”

Painters designed the hoods to reflect their point of view on classic car culture. Also included in the auction were four patriotic themed hoods created by Ryan “Ryno” Templeton.

These hoods were all auctioned off for the 3M ‘Hire Our Heroes’ program which, since 2013, has raised more than $ 825,000 for scholarships and tool grants for military members and their families. Nearly 270 veterans and their families have already received scholarships and grants, and a good number of them have graduated and are now working in the auto body repair industry.
