Neil James, a longtime leader in British Columbia’s automotive recycling sector and former chair of the BC Automotive Recyclers, has died. He was 68.
James led the family business, Ralph’s Auto Supply, and served as chair of the BC Automotive Recyclers from 1990 to 1995. During that period, he worked with Environment Canada, the BC Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Transportation and Highways to help develop the Automotive Recyclers Environmental Code of Practice, which established standards for hazardous-material handling in the recycling industry.
He was also a founding member of the Automotive Recyclers of Canada association and served on ARC’s board of directors for many years.
“Neil was one of the founding members of the Automotive Recyclers of Canada,” former Automotive Retailers Association executive director Steve Fletcher stated. “He was the actual catalyst for the various provincial associations to come together and form ARC as the national voice of the industry he loved.”
