Call for participation: The Canadian Training Benefit survey

Toronto, Ontario — July 15, 2019 — The Government of Canada has just announced a call for participation on a new survey regarding the Canadian Training Benefit (CTB) open to employees in all sectors of Canada’s workforce.

The CTB was designed to help Canadians — like autobody shop employees — upgrade their skills to keep up with new technologies and automation in work environments.

Announced in this year’s Federal Budget, the CTB has been controversial with Canadian auto repair owners, with some concerned that the CTB could make it easier for employees to train for jobs at other facilities on their  employer’s dime, while other owners have welcomed its potential to encourage a culture of training in the auto repair business.

According to the Canadian Government, the key provision of the CTB would be:

– Leave provisions would protect workers who take time off work to obtain training.

– Workers would accumulate $250 per year for a lifetime limit of $5,000 (original amount stated by the government) with eligibility requirements related to accumulated hours of work

– Income earnings and workers would receive income support for a specified period to take the training.”

The survey is offered in both French and English and closes on July 31.
