The Auto Recyclers Northeast Convention and Tradeshow takes place at Resorts World Catskills, a casino resort in Monticello, N.Y. An opening expo reception is scheduled for Nov. 5.
The Automotive Recyclers Association of New York, a trade association representing automotive recycling businesses in the state, is organizing the event.
Bill Tolpa, founder of Tolpa’s Auto Parts, will lead the opening discussion on Nov. 6, addressing electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, staffing and the industry’s future. Tolpa’s is a Remsen, N.Y.-based automotive recycler supplying used original equipment parts to repairers and consumers.
Brandon Dingwell, owner and operations manager of Ding’s Auto Parts, will participate in an afternoon panel examining changes to business practices, technology and workplace culture. Ding’s is a Litchfield, Conn.-based recycler supplying used car and light-truck parts.
The panel also includes Mike Colvett, general manager of Cornell’s Used Auto Parts, a recycler and used-parts supplier in Greenfield Center, N.Y.
Operational training continues Nov. 7. Joe Tortora, general manager of Tolpa’s Auto Parts, will discuss inventory and dismantling quality alongside Nick Collins, a manager with Fenix Parts and treasurer of the New York association.
Fenix Parts is a Hurst, Texas-based automotive recycling and distribution business that recovers and resells original equipment parts from end-of-life vehicles.
Tortora will also participate in a separate session on parts preparation and shipping.
Other sessions cover workplace safety, leadership development and the use of business performance measures.
An eBay presentation will examine how vehicle identification number data, manufacturer diagrams and part-number matching can improve parts identification, strengthen online listings and reduce returns. The San Jose, Calif.-based company operates an online marketplace connecting buyers and sellers, including automotive parts businesses.
A sales school sponsored by Team PRP, a U.S.-based cooperative network of independently owned automotive recyclers, is also scheduled for Nov. 7.
The program includes a Nov. 6 dinner and auction, followed by a networking lunch and awards presentation on Nov. 7.
Registration and the complete program are available through the Automotive Recyclers Association of New York.
