More than 20,000 Jeep Cherokee SUVs made between 2019 and 2023 have been recalled across Canada due to the potential damage and failure of the vehicles’ power transfer unit (PTU). Only affecting some vehicles with a two-speed PTU, the Transport Canada notice states that if the PTU fails, “there could be a loss of power to the wheels and/or the vehicle could move when it's parked and the parking brake isn’t applied.”
While Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) issued the notice on May 7, the recall information was last updated on May 13, warning drivers that “a loss of power to the wheels or a parked vehicle that moves suddenly could create the risk of an injury and/or a crash.”
FCA Canada will provide written notice to affected owners. According to the notice, the corrective actions for this recall are still under development. Consumers can check if this recall applies to their vehicle on FCA’s website.
