Toronto, Ontario — May 23, 2018 — In partnership with Let’s Talk Science, AIA Canada is currently looking for volunteers working in collision sectors to help create video profiles and interviews geared toward helping young people learn about the careers in the automotive aftermarket industry. They are looking for a wide range of people within the industry, from estimators to shop managers, technicians to customer service representatives.
According to AIA and Let’s Talk Science, the videos are intended to inspire children to pursue a career in autobody, demonstrate how STEM skills are relevant to such careers and improve the image of the overall industry. They note that getting involved is a good opportunity to increase visibility of your business or shop to prospective future employees.
“AIA Canada is excited about this partnership with Let’s Talk Science to showcase aftermarket careers. These profiles will go a long way in enhancing the image of our industry. By drawing attention to the STEM skills in our industry occupations, we are aligning this initiative with one of our key files – education and workforce development,” says Shamsia Quraishi, knowledge transfer specialist at AIA Canada.
The career profiles and video interviews will be featured on AutoConnect, a website AIA Canada is currently working on. AutoConnect will be the outcome of a groundbreaking labour market intelligence project for the automotive aftermarket in Canada.
Four applicants will be chosen from the mechanical sector and four from the collision sector. Successful applicants will take a questionnaire designed to highlight the most interesting parts of their job, while illuminating the relevance of science, technology, engineering and math skills. Alternatively, successful applicants can arrange a phone interview. All options take 20 minutes to complete. You can also sign up to do a video profile, though this will only be conducted in the general Toronto area.
