Coming Together: Unifor secures three-year deal with Leamington auto parts plant

Windsor, Ontario — In what could be considered a win for the Canadian auto industry as a whole, Unifor Local 444, the union representing workers at the Windsor Assembly Plant, tweeted on Sunday it reached a deal with Leamington auto parts plant ElringKlinger.

Unifor and the auto parts manufacturer managed to come to a three-year agreement over the weekend, securing work for the 130 employees currently working at ElringKlinger.

Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk also took to Twitter to congratulate the two organizations for coming to an agreement.

“It’s wonderful to see the ratification of this deal,” said Kusmierczyk in an interview with CBC News.

“These plants are going to play an important role in the economic recovery of our region. So, it’s wonderful to see all of these companies, all of these manufacturers signing these collective bargaining agreements.”
