skillsontario

Toronto, Ontario — Skills Ontario is putting a priority on diversity this December as the provincial trades advocate announced a number of virtual events centred around inclusivity in the skilled trades sector.

In the coming weeks, Skills Ontario will be hosting three in-depth programs that aim to introduce and encourage youth and new Canadians to the opportunities that the trades and tech industry can provide.

The first event is scheduled for Dec. 1 and will serve as a continuation of Skills Ontario’s Skilled Trades & Tech Inclusivity Series and feature Niagara College Motive Power Technician student Henry Kariuki, who will deliver the keynote speech.

On Dec. 2, Skills Ontario will be hosting the Persons with Exceptionalities Conference for students from Grade 7 to 12, providing them with an opportunity to explore the skilled trades and technology industry.

Looking ahead to March 2022, Skills Ontario is also planning a Virtual Trades and Tech Discovery Day for New Canadians which will give recent immigrants the opportunity to hear from government officials and industry representatives, connect with colleges, businesses and organizations to learn first-hand about the positive experiences of those in the industry. This event is currently scheduled for March 30.
