Toronto, Ontario — March 31, 2014 — The season for skills competitions is upon us once again, and Toronto District School Board kicked things off with its municipal competition on March 26. The event took place at Danforth Collegiate Technical Institute, located at 800 Greenwood Ave. in Toronto, Ont.
While skills competitions often have a wide array of events, there are really only two we have our eyes on: Collision Repair and Car Painting. The judges for those competitions were Kirk Edwards of BASF, Peter Wrong of 3M, Jack Martino of Martino Brothers Collision~CSN and Tony Teng of Prochilo Brothers Auto Collision.
Sheldon Cruckshank took home the Gold medal for Collision Repair, followed by Clare Allin (Silver) and Nicolas St. Marie (Bronze). In Car Painting, the Gold medal went to Catherine Mathewson, with Evan Kyriakidis taking the Silver medal.
As Gold medalists in their respective competitions, Cruckshank and Mathewson will represent Toronto at the Ontario Technological Skills Competition, taking place May 6, 2014 at RIM Park in Waterloo, Ont.
Winners of the provincial competition will go on to the Canada Skills National Competition, set to run June 4 to 7, 2014 at the International Centre in Toronto.
