Show of Force: Former mayor returns damaged city vehicle after losing municipal election

Surrey, British Columbia — A Surrey city councillor is calling out former mayor Doug McCallum for allegedly returning his city vehicle with a large dent in the front fender after losing a municipal election this past weekend.

“To my extreme disgust, this is how McCallum returned his @CityofSurrey funded vehicle… a final FU to Surrey residents,” wrote Surrey city councillor Jack Hundial in a disgruntled Twitter post.

Multiple reports indicate that the mayor received a $15,000 annual car allowance to cover insurance and gas, in addition to being granted a city-owned car for his own use.

A Surrey corporate services spokesperson confirmed that McCallum’s vehicle was indeed returned during the weekend, but said “as the matter is being reviewed, the city will not be commenting at this time.”
