Shop fire in Richmond Hill

Toronto, Ontario — June 20, 2016 — Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services reponded to a call very early Saturday morning at an auto body and tire shop, located at 30 Major Mackenzie Drive East. The location is near Church Street, directly east of Yonge Street. The address is that of Discount Tire City.

The response from fire crews included a large number of emergency workers and vehicles. A total of 35 firefighters were on the scene, in addition to three chief officers from Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services. York Emergency Medical Services and York Region Police were als on the scene.

The vehicle response included one rescue vehicle, two aerials and six pumper trucks. Arriving on the scene around 3:30 a.m., the crews worked quickly and contained the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
