Toronto, Ontario — January 8, 2019 — Porsche has unveiled the successor to its Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

The new 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport comes three years after the original – and highly successful – model was released.

This time, the car features two designs – the ‘Trackday’ version, built for ambitious amateurs, and the ‘Competition’ model, for professional motor racing.

The Competition variant will be making its appearance at the 2019 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada.

Both models feature a 3.8-litre flat-six-powered engine with 313kW of power and 425hp, but each has a different chassis and driver assistance systems designed for either amateur or professional racing.

The Trackday has a smaller fuel tank, handheld fire extinguisher and an escape hatch on the roof – as well as fixed shocks.

The Competition, meanwhile, has adjustable brake bias, an automatic fire extinguisher system and three-way adjustable dampers.

Porsche is also pleased to announce that both models are made usingsome natural materials, including agricultural by-products such as flax and hemp fibres.

The 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport will be sold by Porsche Motorsport North America, which is based in Carson, California.

They will be delivered to drivers – professional and amateur alike – from February.

Based on an adjustment from European pricing, the Trackday is expected to cost around C$204,000 while the Competition will start at around C$240,000.

Fritz Enzinger, head of motorsport at Porsche, said the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport “possesses significantly more racing genes” than its predecessor.

“The power of the engine has increased considerably,” he added.

“At the same time, we were able to increase the downforce and the cockpit is now even better suited to drivers’ needs.”

He also said the German manufacturer is confident it will build on the popularity of the previous model, which saw sales of 421 cars.

Last year, Porsche sold 8,904 cars overall in Canada, a rise of 7.9 percent on 2017.
