Rising Costs: Average repair claim rising in U.K.

Toronto, Ontario -- Japanese OEMs are spending less than global peers on repairs for vehicles under warranty, a new report has found.

A new report from Warranty Solutions Group in the U.K. looks at which car brands break down the most, how much repairs usually cost and how often owners need to make a warranty claims.

Toyota came in first place with the lowest number of warranty claims. Only 7.02 percent of Toyota owners needed to make a claim, and when they did, the average repair cost was £479 (about $886). Honda was next at 9.9 percent and £489 (about $905), followed by Mazda at 10.4 percent and £629 (about $1,164). 

The report also found the average warranty claim rose by about 15 percent over the past year and that EV repair claims averaged between 30 percent and 50 percent higher than ICE claims.

Most European OEMs were found to pay out more expensive and frequent warranty claims than their Japanese peers. Mercedes owners claimed 22.9 percent of the time, with repairs averaging £678 (about $1,254).

Vehicles manufactured in the U.K. placed at the bottom of the rankings. 

Land Rover owners made claims 36 percent of the time, with average repair costs of £1,020 (about $1,887). 

Jaguar owners made claims 25.5 percent of the time, paying about £826 (about $1,528) per repair.
