New Year, Warm Rear: GM to retrofit 2022 models with heated seats in Q2

Toronto, Ontario — General Motors drivers can unclench now that the automaker has announced that they will be able to retrofit the highly-coveted heated seats into their 2022 models by the second quarter of next year.

Last week, General Motors announced that they would be cutting optional features like heated seats and steering wheels on their 2022 model year vehicles in response to the ongoing microchip shortage.

However, the company has since announced that they expect to have enough chips by the midpoint of the fiscal year to be able to retrofit the new vehicles with heated seats, but not heated steering wheels.

Several other automakers have been forced to cut certain features from their vehicles in order to re-route their dwindling microchip supply to other more integral systems.

BMW, for example, was forced to ship its 3 Series; 4 Series Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe; and X5, X6, X7, and Z4 models, all without touch screens.
