Toronto, Ontario -- Mercedes-Benz is recalling more than 90,000 GLC SUVs from model years 2023–2025 due to concerns the C-pillar trim may not provide adequate head protection for rear passengers in a crash.
The announcement came after two crash tests commissioned by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found certain models may not be in compliance with federal safety standards. The tests, conducted in May, concluded that the C-pillar and roof lining in vehicles equipped with panoramic sunroofs may not absorb enough energy during rear-seat impacts, increasing the risk of injury. The OEM followed up with its own tests, which determined that the stiffness of the trim and lining components could result in head contact during collisions.
The recall affects GLC 300, GLC 300 4MATIC, AMG GLC 43 4MATIC, GLC 350e 4MATIC and AMG GLC 63 S E models with sunroofs.
As part of the recall, dealers will modify the roof liner and C-pillar at no cost to vehicle owners. Notification letters are expected to be sent out beginning August 4, 2025.
Shops certified by Mercedes-Benz or contracted by dealerships may see increased demand as owners are notified and repair work begins. No injuries or collisions related to the defect have been reported.
