Going for Gold: Results from the Ontario Skills competition

Sparks fly at the 2016 Ontario Technological Skills Competition.

Waterloo, Ontario — May 5, 2015 — The results are in from the Ontario Technological Skills Competition (OTSC). Over 20,000 spectators filled RIM Park in Waterloo to capacity for the competition, which included 67 events and over 2,100 participants from Ontario’s high schools and colleges. The OTSC is the largest competition of its kind in Canada.

It was a gruelling competition, but in the end Colin Bailey of Centennial College took the Gold medal in the Post-Secondary Auto Collision Repair category. The Silver went to Juan Suarez-Melo, also of Centennial College, with Ben Lukes of Algonquin College taking the Bronze medal.

Aaron Cassidy of Napanee District Secondary School won Gold in the Secondary Auto Collision Repair competition, with Ben Stillie of Robert Bateman High School and Noah Gommel of Danforth Collegiate winning Silver and Bronze, respectively.

Turning to Auto Painting, the Post-Secondary category was headed up by Brodie Gibson of Fanshawe College. Mason Norlock and Matthew Watts, both of Centennial College, took Silver and Bronze.

Conrad Proszowski of H.B. Beal Secondary School took the Gold medal in Secondary Auto Painting. The Silver medal went to Billy Day of Robert Bateman High School. Matthew Norris of Danforth Collegiate Institute and Technical School won the Bronze medal.

Colin Bailey, Aaron Cassidy, Brodie Gibson and Conrad Proszowski will go on to the national competition taking place June 5 to 8 in Moncton, New Brunswick. The overall winner of the Canada-wide competition will join Team Canada and represent our country at the 2017 WorldSkills Competition. The WorldSkills event will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in Abu Dhabi.
