D’oh Plow: Collision with uncertified snowplow leads MPI to sue small town

Winnipeg, Manitoba — The western Manitoba municipality of Minitonas-Bowsman is now the subject of a lawsuit leveled by the province’s public insurance corporation, following a collision involving a snowplow and a 2021 Ford Edge Titanium.

MPI is seeking $38,586 in damages, alleging in the lawsuit that the municipality allowed an individual to operate a Toromont Cat snow-clearing machine with incomplete registration.

The insurer claims further that the driver of the plow was driving recklessly and at excessive speeds, preventing them from being able to apply the brakes or steer away in time.

The Edge was insured with MPI in February 2022, according to the lawsuit, and ended up in salvage for $12,310, with MPI covering the cost of towing, storage, tear-downs, and the deductible.

Neither the municipality nor MPI have commented to media officially on the matter as of yet.
