Clinging to Costs: Ontario driver charged for using plastic wrap as windshield

Prescott, Ontario — On Monday morning, police charged a driver with operating an unsafe vehicle after noticing that the vehicle’s windshield had been replaced with plastic wrap.

In an effort to save the costs needed for a repair, a driver in Prescott, Ont., was pulled over by the OPP for replacing their smashed windshield with a film of plastic wrap.

The OPP involved say that the plastic wrap was being held in place with duct tape—according to photos taken—and the edge of a smashed-out windshield appeared to still be on the car.

“If you have ever asked yourself if plastic wrap would make a suitable window replacement, the answer is most definitely ‘NO’,” OPP East Region said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
