Hamilton, Ontario — April 9, 2015
Collision Industry Information Assistance (CIIA) has announced the association will be holding a new series of preparatory courses to aid technicians in becoming legally qualified to practice in Ontario.
The new Certificate of Qualification prep classes are tailored to techs who are not yet legally licensed to practice in the province and focus on helping them pass the provincial trades license exam.
The impact of the Ontario College of Trades enforcement on unlicensed techs and the tendency for most exam “challengers” to fail on their first try has highlighted the industry’s need for CIIA’s preparation course.
CIIA previously had conducted two courses in early 2015, but they became over-subscribed. In response, the association has scheduled new dates for technicians wishing to take the Certificate of Qualfication exam:
- London, Ontario: Commencing Wednesday, May 20 and Monday, May 25, the nine-evening program runs every Monday and Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Hamilton, Ontario: The Hamilton-area prep course is set to begin on Tuesday, May 19, and Thursday, May 21, and will be held every Tuesday and Thursday over nine nights.
- Toronto, Ontario: Joining Hamilton on the same days, CIIA is also organizing a series of Certificate of Qualification exam preparation courses in Toronto that are scheduled on May 19 and 21, running for nine evenings.
- Thunder Bay, Ontario: Full weekday courses will run from June 22 to June 26.
CIIA is also planning course offerings in Sudbury and Ottawa, based on demand.
The cost of admittance for non-members is $750, with CIIA members paying a reduced rate of $550. HST is to be applied to each application.
Most employers who have technicians attending classes are eligible for a two-thirds training fee rebate from the government.
