Chemist Cleans Up Moore Medal: PPG chemist honoured for work on LTC coatings

Toronto, Ontario – PPG research chemist and chemical engineering Ph.D. graduate from Queens University Wei Wang has been honoured with the Society of Chemical Industry (SCI) America Gordon E. Moore Medal, during an event on Tuesday.

The prestigious award that recognizes early-career innovation selected Wang based on his contributions to PPG’s breakthrough low-temperature cure (LTC) and compact process coating technologies for automotive vehicle manufacturers.

Wang joined the team at PPG in 2010 when he was instrumental in co-inventing several solvents and water-based polymer dispersion technologies used in automotive OEM coatings.

No stranger to high honours, Wang’s LTC coating process was a finalist for a prestigious R&D® 100 Award.

“These outcomes represent significant sustainability benefits to our customers,” said David Bem, PPG vice president and chief technology officer. “We are proud Dr. Wang is being recognized for these achievements.”
