Centennial College students take the gold in Ontario

Toronto, Ontario — May 4, 2017 — Centennial College students have taken gold medals in both the Autobody Repair and Car Painting competitions in the post-secondary category at the 2017 Ontario Skills Competition. The competition took place at the Toronto Congress Centre over three days.

Colin Bailey took the gold medal for Autobody, with Catherine Mathewson taking gold for Car Painting. Not only are both medalists currently students at Centennial College, they’re both graduates of Toronto’s Danforth Collegiate and Technical Institute.

Algonquin College and Fanshawe College also saw students ascending to the podium. Nicholas Denny of Algonquin College took home the silver medal in post-secondary Autobody Repair. Maggie Friesen of Fanshawe College won silver in Car Painting, with the bronze going to Kyle Mordy of Algonquin.

Turning to the secondary school results, Caleb Fitchett of Limestone took gold in Autobody Repair, followed by Noah Gommel of Toronto with the silver and Tyler McNamee of Halton taking the bronze medal. Matthew Norris of Toronto took the gold medal in the secondary category for Car Painting.

Post-secondary gold medalists may go on to compete at the national competition taking place in Winnipeg from May 31 to June 3. Watch collisionrepairmag.com for complete coverage of the national competition.
