Hamilton, Ontario — April 10, 2014 — CARSTAR Automotive Canada has been presented with the 2014 Corporate Citizen Award by the Canadian Franchise Association. CARSTAR was among other major franchises including Booster Juice, CJ Woodburn & Associates, A&W Food Services of Canada and ServiceMaster of Canada who all won their own respective awards.

Each year, the Corporate Citizen Award is given to a franchise network that best demonstrates ongoing support of a community or social group. Selection is based on philanthropic innovation, support and impact to the community.

“We are very honoured to receive this award from the CFA. It is humbling to be recognized among other leading franchise systems,” says Lisa Mercanti-Ladd, EVP of CARSTAR. “We plan to really celebrate this award at our 2014 CARSTAR industry Conference in Quebec City.”

Along with commitment to its sustainability program called Give, Green and Growth Guarantee, which acknowledges leadership in sustainability across the CARSTAR network, CARSTAR’s involvement and support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada was instrumental in the receipt of this award. CARSTAR franchise partners, staff and business partners have raised over $2 million for CF Canada.

CARSTAR’s history with CF is a personal one. Over 16 years ago, one of CARSTAR’s franchise partners had a granddaughter Victoria who was diagnosed with CF. When Sam Mercanti, President and CEO of CARSTAR, heard about the regimen that Victoria and her family had to undergo daily, he and all of the CARSTAR franchise partners rallied together in order to support CF Canada and help those living with this disease.

“We are thankful to have franchise partners who are committed to their communities and to supporting CF Canada. They really embody our ‘why’ of doing business; to be there for customers, communities and cars when they need us,” says Mercanti-Ladd.

In 2014, CARSTAR aims to raise $200,000 for CF Canada by holding its first Shine Month in June, with the entire month dedicated to raising funds towards research, advocacy and ultimately a cure for CF.
