Toronto, Ontario -- SEM Products is the exclusive distributor of 4Plastic repair products in Canada and the United States, following a new agreement between 4Plastic and its global partner PPG.

The announcement follows an 18-month development period and pilot testing period involving multi-shop operators in several global markets. The product line includes tools, materials and equipment designed specifically for the repair of automotive plastic components.

“These unique tools and materials were built on the success of the filler-free plastic repair process already utilized in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, then brought to the United States,” said Michael LoPrete, managing director of 4Plastic. “There have been over one million bumper and headlight repairs completed to date by leading MSOs utilizing this filler-free process that the 4Plastic range is built upon.”

According to the company, the products are intended to allow repaired parts to retain flexibility and structural properties comparable to original equipment specifications, without the added weight of fillers or two-part epoxies.

The line includes a new two-component texture coating system, which the company says was developed in collaboration with SEM and 4Plastic. It includes various black and grey finishes across multiple texture grades.

The company has also developed a mobile app for colour and texture matching, a new push tool for reshaping bumpers, polypropylene/EPDM welding rods, bumper tab repair jigs and a headlight restoration line. The jigs are designed to clip onto damaged areas to assist in fuse welding or edge repair.

SEM will distribute the texture coating range first. Plastic repair and headlight restoration products are expected to follow in the third quarter. All products will be available through SEM’s existing distribution network.

“This agreement and the development of the plastic repair specialty range represent the latest response to the growing industry demand for safer, higher-standard plastic repair solutions,” said Meghan Barrera, PPG business director, allied products, Automotive Refinish. “It also aligns with the recent launch of Plasnomic and the announcement of the Plastic Repair Alliance Council—a groundbreaking collaboration bringing together some of the most dynamic and respected professionals in the global collision repair industry. We look forward to working together as we expand our portfolio offerings in the Allied space.”

According to the companies, the North American launch follows implementation of the filler-free repair process in other markets and is positioned as part of a broader global expansion effort by 4Plastic.
