Seal of Approval: Auto Recyclers update Gold Seal program

Callander, Ontario — The Automotive Recyclers of Canada is unveiling updates to its Gold Seal certification program.

According to Wally Dingman, executive director of the Auto Recyclers of Canada, Gold Seal 2.0, the new version of its long-standing certification program is being backed by several provincial auto recycling associations, including the Ontario Automotive Recyclers Association.

“Gold Seal has helped recyclers demonstrate professionalism and quality standards, giving repairers, insurers and consumers confidence in the parts and services they receive,” Dingman wrote in an article posted on Canadian Recycler. “Now, Gold Seal 2.0 will introduce a much stronger focus on measurable performance metrics (KPIs) that align with the expectations of insurers, collision repairers — and consumers.”

The new framework is designed to ensure certified recyclers can be evaluated on consistency, accountability and reliability, going beyond minimum requirements. Dingman noted that it also reinforces the environmental and safety benefits professional recyclers bring to the market.

“Gold Seal 2.0 underscores how professional recyclers contribute to Canada’s climate goals, prevent unsafe parts from re-entering the market and support the broader circular economy,” he wrote.

The executive director added that industry consultation has been central to the redesign. “The development of Gold Seal 2.0 is being shaped through consultation with members, insurers, and industry partners,” he said. “That input is ensuring the program is credible, relevant and practical for recyclers of all sizes.”

He added that the updated certification will provide market advantages for recyclers who meet the standards, while reinforcing trust across the supply chain. "For ARC and OARA members, the message is clear: certification is evolving -- and those who lead on quality and accountability will be the ones to thrive in the years ahead."
