Toronto, Ontario --Axalta Coating Systems is unveiling two new powder coatings designed to enhance safety and performance in electric vehicle batteries.
The products — Alesta e-PRO FG Black and Alesta e-PRO Dielectric Gray — are engineered to improve fire protection and electrical insulation in next-generation EV battery packs. The announcement was made ahead of Axalta’s presentation at The Battery Show North America.
Alesta e-PRO FG Black provides thermal protection and flame resistance under extreme temperatures ranging from 600 °C to 1,200 °C. The coating resists ignition and smoke generation, demonstrating zero smoke emission during high-temperature testing. It also offers corrosion resistance and can be applied directly to electrocoated substrates.
Alesta e-PRO Dielectric Gray, an epoxy-based coating, provides electrical insulation for high-voltage environments. It demonstrated high performance in hipot testing up to 6 kV and offers flexibility for complex component geometries. Both coatings have undergone safety testing to meet UL 94 V0, IEC 60243-1 and UL 2596 TaG standards.
“These breakthrough products demonstrate the amazing power of coatings to rise to new challenges,” said Dr. Robert Roop, Axalta’s senior vice president and chief technology officer. “Our customers are looking for technologies that can withstand extreme environments.”
Axalta said the new coatings are designed for integration into validated OEM battery systems and could help automakers improve safety and durability in electric vehicle designs.
