The federal government is providing more than $1.6 million to two southern Ontario auto suppliers to help them modernize operations, expand production and respond to tariff-related market pressure.
MVA Stratford, based in Stratford, Ontario, is receiving more than $886,000 for new specialized equipment to modernize its core production lines. The company, founded in 2010, manufactures plastic injection-molded automotive components and assemblies. The funding is intended to help it improve production and pursue markets beyond the U.S.
Armo Tool, based in London, Ont., is receiving $750,000 to expand its tooling and manufacturing capabilities. Founded in 1969, the company manufactures automation systems, precision-machined parts and fabricated metal components and assemblies for the automotive, aerospace, defence and industrial sectors. The funding is intended to help it increase capacity and diversify into new markets.
The funding was announced March 19 in Stratford, Ont., and is being delivered through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. The money is coming through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative, a federal program for businesses affected by tariffs.
The federal government also says it will allocate $3 billion from the Strategic Response Fund and up to $100 million from the Regional Tariff Response Initiative to help the auto industry adapt, grow and diversify.
Evan Solomon, Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (left), said: “Our new auto strategy will help businesses integrate technologies into our existing supply chains to support jobs across Canada. The auto sector in southern Ontario is a critical part of our economy and the businesses and workers that support it are top of mind. I’m thrilled to support MVA Stratford and Armo Tool as they expand their business within the automotive supply chain in southern Ontario.”
Peter Fragiskatos, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship and Member of Parliament for London Centre (right), announced the funding on Solomon’s behalf. Fragiskatos said: “Today’s investment in MVA Stratford and Armo Tool will strengthen their roles in Canada’s automotive supply chain. These upgrades will enhance competitiveness, support regional economic growth, and build long-term resilience.”
The federal government says Canada’s auto sector supports more than 500,000 workers, contributes more than $16 billion annually to GDP and produced more than 1.2 million passenger vehicles in 2025.
