Vancouver, British Columbia — December 16, 2013 — Boyd Autobody & Glass stores in B.C.’s Lower Mainland have given Basics for Babies a big boost. Basics for Babies is an initiative by local radio station JRFM that collects items babies need, such as diapers and formula, and donates it to local food banks.
“It’s a great cause, and we’ve been supporting it for the last three years,†says Robin Soni, manager of Boyd Autobody in Vancouver. “About a dozen of our stores participated, and with the help of our insurer, supplier and other partners, our staff managed to raise over $20,000 worth of donations.â€
Efforts add up quickly when everyone pitches in. Donations came from staff, supplier and insurer partners and customers. |
The official fundraising day for Basics for Babies took place Sunday, December 15 at the Langley Events Centre. The day included a number of kid friendly events, such as an inflatable obstacle course, a Kids Craft Corner and photos with Santa. Attractions for adults included a free concert, live-to-air broadcasts on JRFM and a silent auction.
Funds raised by Boyd Autobody were driven directly donations from staff, partners and the occasional customer.
“One customer came in last week, and asked why we had so many cases of diapers and cans of formula around,†says Soni. “I explained what we were doing, and he took 20 bucks out of his wallet and said ‘Get them something for me.’â€
