BASF’s Glasurit paint brand named Gold SCNC sponsor

Southfield, Michigan — May 28, 2014 — Glasurit, the premium paint brand of BASF, will serve as a Gold sponsor and provide a portable Glasurit 90 Line paint system for the 2014 Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) held June 4-7 at the International Centre in Toronto.

The SCNC is a key national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in Canada. Every year, more than 550 young people from all regions of Canada come to SCNC to participate in over 40 skilled trade and technology contests.

A portable Glasurit 90 Line paint system will be provided in a spray booth, along with technical support, for the students to use during competition. The spray booth will allow participants to get hands-on automotive body repair, refinish and restyling experience, which will prepare them for future jobs in the collision repair industry.

Students will mix Glasurit 90 line paint using the latest mixing equipment technology. They will also prepare and refinish bumper covers as well as perform colour basecoat blends on pre-painted fenders. In addition, each student will complete an exercise in colour matching.

“There is no better place than the SCNC when it comes to championing hands-on skilled trade and technology career experience for today’s youth,” said Harry Dhanjal, Business Manager for BASF Automotive Refinish in Canada. “As a dedicated supporter of education initiatives and the skilled trade industry as a whole, BASF is excited to share our knowledge and process expertise with the workforce of tomorrow.”

SCNC provides valuable hands-on work experience by providing a forum where Canadian youth can compete against each another at the national level. Through the event competitions, the SCNC raises awareness about skilled trades and technology sectors to the participants and their influencers.

BASF’s Automotive Refinish business makes and markets coatings for the collision repair, commercial fleet and automotive specialty markets. Its paint products are supported by technical training programs, advanced colour information systems and business management and planning tools.
