Richmond, British Columbia — April 22, 2015 — Recyclers from across the country will converge on Richmond this weekend for the Automotive Retailers Association’s (ARA) B-CAR 2015 mid-year meeting.
The BC Auto Recyclers Division of ARA tees off its two-day convention at 11 a.m. on April 24 with the Merv Storzuk Memorial Golf Tournament at the Riverway Way Golf Club, located at 9001 Bill Fox Way in Burnaby, British Columbia.
Running concurrently, the Automotive Recyclers of Canada (ARC) will be holding its annual general meeting inside the River Rock Casino Resort, located at 8811 River Road in Richmond. The meeting will be conducted inside the Birkenhead Room from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Friday evening delegates will gather in the River Rock Casino’s Thompson room for the B-CAR Meet and Greet — sponsored by Allied Information — from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Attendees will be getting right down to business early April 25, commencing the B-CAR 2015 mid-year meeting with an opening introduction by B-CAR Chairman Neil James. The opening address, set for 9 a.m., will be followed by a presentation from keynote speaker Steve Fletcher, the managing director of ARC.
Fletcher will be discussing an array of industry topics, including government support for ARC’s CAREC standard, the expansion of ARC’s vehicle retirement program, formation of an end-of-life vehicle industry sector council, and the Grants in Gear program. Additional points include:
- Gaining access to OEM data for recyclers’ inventory systems.
- Auto recycling licensing updates from Prince Edward Island, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Manitoba and Quebec.
- A discussion about the HFO-1234yf refrigerant and electric/hybrid batteries, which Fletcher says are new vehicle technologies that need to be recycled now.
- Past and future international meetings, such as the IARC in Berlin, the 2014 International Roundtable (IRT) in Japan, and the 2016 IRT, set to be held in Malaysia.
- The Takata Airbag lawsuit in the United States and its impact on Canada.
- Updated governance and policy structures at ARA and their impact on affiliates and Canadian recyclers.
Attending guest speakers include Dave Scarrotts of Allied Information, Hollander’s Katherine Hedges, Alan Sorvan of Summerhill Impact, and Car-Part’s Ron Van Raamsdonk. In addition, Ken Hendricks will present the preliminary results of B-CAR’s research paper.
Car-Part will also be holding a drop-in Q & A seminar on its Checkmate line of products from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Lillooet Room.
