Toronto, Ontario — Ford is recalling 700,000 vehicles in North America because of a poor electrical connection that could cause the rearview camera to distort the display, increasing the risk of an accident.
In Canada, Ford is recalling 76,566 vehicles, with 620,000 U.S. vehicles and 4,302 vehicles from Mexico also affected, according to the automaker.
The vehicles being recalled are of the 2020 model year and include the Ford Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, F-350 SD, F-550 SD, Mustang, Ranger, Lincoln Corsair, Nautilus and Transit vehicles.
Documents from the U.S. government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have cited poor electrical connection as the problem. Dealers will be replacing the rear view cameras at no cost to owners.
Magna Electronics, a unit of Canadian auto supplier Magna International, is the manufacturer of the part listed on the document.
Dealers will be notified about the recall starting Nov. 7 and will replace the rearview camera—free of charge. Car owners will also be notified on Nov. 7 via mail.
