Collision industry trends discussed at ICE meeting

Hamilton, Ontario — November 4, 2015 — Employment issues and opportunities in the collision repair industry were front and centre of discussions at a recent meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Economic and Labour Force Development (ICE).

Speaking to the large group were Marc Tremblay, Program Coordinator of AYCE’s pre-apprenticeship training course in Toronto, and John Norris of the Collision Industry Information Assistance (CIIA) trade association. The two speakers updated the committee on the latest employment numbers, trends, job openings and the increasing complexities of repairs for today’s modern vehicles.

“Speaking to the ICE partners keeps all of us informed on the latest opportunities and results for employment in this trade,” says Norris.

ICE members are drawn from the departments and ministries involved with economic development and labour force development issues in Toronto at all three levels of government. Current ICE members include representatives from:

City of Toronto: Economic Development and Culture, Employment and Social Services and Social Development and Finance and Administration Divisions.

Province of Ontario: Ministries of Education, Municipal Affairs and Housing, Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, Training, Colleges and Universities and Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure.

Government of Canada: Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Industry Canada, Service Canada and FedDev Ontario.
