Toronto, Ontario — April 30, 2014 — AYCE’s 2013 pre-apprenticeship autobody students were joined by a special guest yesterday as they toured the Brimell Group Paint and Collision Center: John Tory, Toronto mayoral candidate and former MPP.
Tory dropped by the collision repair facility on Sheppard Avenue in Toronto to meet with students from the AYCE program and to show his support for programs that help youth find work.
He took a hands-on approach during his visit, donning an apron and safety goggles to buff a headlight, under direction from one of the pre-apprenticeship students.
AYCE’s programs target youth who have faced personal and academic challenges throughout their lives and gives them the chance to build a future they can be happy in. The program is six weeks long and immerses them in various aspects of the collision industry before ending with 12 weeks of classes at Centennial College.
Marc Tremblay is the program’s co-ordinator, and he says they’ve really turned up the intensity for their 2014 efforts, hoping to build upon the successes of the 2013 program which saw all 18 students graduate. Tremblay is proud to note as well that of the 18, 16 are still employed in the trade.
The Brimell Group is a strong support of the AYCE program, with this year marking the fourth time the company has hosted students from the program.
