EV Market Expansion and Its Implications On Battery Demand

The global EV arms race is well underway and major vehicle OEMs, startups and a growing supply chain are all placing bets on how best to serve this market – at what scale, when and where. Forecasts for xEV’s is driving unprecedented investment around the world and one important question is whether battery capacity will exceed or fall short of actual demand in the coming years. This panel includes industry experts who will share their latest forecasts on battery supply and demand, along with strategic implications for EV OEMs seeking to serve this rapidly expanding market.

Battery Market & Economic Outlook: Supply & Demand

In the past decade the battery industry has grown exponentially supported by the growing application of consumer electronics, renewal power generation, and most significantly by the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. However, the challenges brought on by the global covid-19 pandemic, rising battery costs and concerns over supply and demand have shifted market dynamics, investment, and altered some of the forecasts for the industry. In this opening leaders’ roundtable, top industry leaders will set the tone for the conference by discussing what the new outlook for the US battery market looks like including, growth trends, developments, restrains and market economic drivers & investment opportunities.

Forecasting EV Battery Recycling Economics

A panel of industry experts will discuss the challenges associated with forecasting near and far future EV battery recycling costs, including:

  • Discussion of the key factors that influence the economics of battery recycling, including scale, OPEX/CAPEX, logistics costs, and raw material recovery rates and prices
  • Modelling of the battery recycling value chain
  • Use of Ricardo’s established processes for scenario analysis, to focus on robustness of predictions, rather than precision

Investing in Battery Manufacturing in the US: Rise of the Giga Factory

As the production of EVs continues to accelerate and battery demand continues to grow with the electrification across industries, vehicle manufacturers, automotive suppliers and governments are racing to catch up and push for more investment into regional supply chain and Gigafactory plants for lithium-ion batteries. This spotlight session will focus on the rise of battery manufacturing in the US and provide an understanding on the progress, challenges, and opportunities facing the country, including investments, government support and initiatives, plant considerations such as location, costs, and access to skilled labor and finally becoming cost competitive with China.

How To Fill The Battery Talent Gap?

Demand is increasing for engineering and related technical experts in the battery industry. As companies compete for talent to meet aggressive production timelines, salaries in the US has surged 40% in the past 5 years. What is needed to build a robust and equitable pipeline for the skilled workforce required to sustain this rapidly growing industry?

Impact of Component Technology Selection when Designing Efficient EV Systems

eMobility design teams are under tremendous pressure to save every amp possible in their designs. Unnecessary power consumption often goes unnoticed because many engineers aren’t familiar with latching technology or how it can reduce the energy requirements of electromagnetic components for thermal management and other vehicle systems. This session is designed to provide attendees with a better understanding of latching technology including capabilities, pros/cons and where related components can best be used.
