NTS Invests $500,000 to Expand Environmental Testing at Fullerton Lab to Keep Up with Demand

Orange County’s Most Robust One-Stop Shop for Defense, Space, Medical, Aviation, and Electric Vehicle Testing Adds New Capacity during Pandemic

ANAHEIM, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AHigherStandardNTS, the undisputed leader in testing, inspection, and certification solutions in North America, is pleased to announce that its laboratory in Fullerton, California has expanded its environmental testing capabilities with a $500,000 investment. The NTS lab secured seven new environmental chambers, which increased capacity for meeting customer schedule demands.

NTS Fullerton’s environmental chamber additions include four new Thermotron chambers with temperature ranges between -70°C to 180°C and maintain relative humidity of 20-95%. This is required for many ruggedized industrial, automotive and military tests that require low temperatures of typically -40°C or -55°C. These chambers are compressor-based and can achieve 10°C/minute ramp rates without a liquid nitrogen boost. This modern, compressor-based method is more cost effective and safer than liquid nitrogen refrigeration chambers—and allows for better temperature control.

“We’re excited to use NTS to ensure the integrity of our Electric Vehicle Charging Systems,” said Shaun Paysen, Sr. Engineer from a local manufacturer of automotive charging solutions and battery systems. “The compressor-based Thermotron chambers deliver the needed ramp rates cost effectively and use a reliable method to achieve a temperature and humidity controlled test environment. Using a trusted name like NTS with its multi-decade history in environmental testing provides assurance in the testing process.”

The expansion comes during a pandemic in which many testing facilities are contracting or closing. “Even during the pandemic, we have had multiple customers in our immediate area require these chambers for their testing, so we are thrilled to provide this key service and investment at a significant time,” remarked Michael Shook, General Manager at NTS Fullerton.

Three new chambers from Test Equity complete the expansion investment. These 27-cubic-foot temperature chambers can be programmed for predetermined extremes to achieve fatiguing and identifying latent defects over a period of time. Their temperature ranges between -73°C to 175°C and also maintain relative humidity of fatiguing and identifying latent defects over a period of time. Their temperature ranges between -73 degrees C to 175 degrees C and also maintain relative humidity of 10–95%.

NTS Fullerton is a massive test facility with advanced environmental, mechanical, EMI/EMC, wireless, and dynamics testing capabilities to serve customers across multiple sectors. In fact, NTS Fullerton has more equipment, experience, and technical expertise than any other lab in Orange County. “This recent investment, during a pandemic, demonstrates our continued commitment to our customers and expanding capabilities to ensure them the best test experience possible,” said Shook.
