New Westminster, British Columbia — March 16, 2015 — New Westminster city council is looking into relocating the city’s animal shelter and tow yard.

The New Westminster Record reports that the land surrounding the 231 Ewen Ave. address, the current home to both services, is set to be redeveloped in the next two to three years, necessitating the move.

In response, council has begun establishing a task force — consisting of city council members and staff, the Royal City Humane Society and members of the community — to investigate and review the needs and delivery options of a future location housing both services.

The task force’s recommendations are required by September 30, 2015.
