A Kart of History: Miniature Model T up for auction in Florida

Toronto, Ontario — To convince a grown adult that their casual neighbourhood-cruising vehicle should be a go-kart might be a tough sell to anyone but a certain bespectacled “Trailer Park Boy”—however, a kart designed like a Model T may just be the exception.

In one of the rare cases where a top hat would actually make the driver look more normal, Mini-Kars Inc., a Kansas City-based company that builds mini versions of classic vehicles, is auctioning off a mini version of Ford’s groundbreaking early automobile.

Ford Authority managed to dig up some info on the mini T, which is nearly a vintage in of itself, having been originally built in June 1974. The kart fittingly found its way to the possession of a local Shriners chapter who used it as a parade car for a number of years, before selling it back to Mini-Kars in 2020.

Since being back in the possession of its creators, the kart has had its paintwork refurbished, in addition to a number of other iconic markers of the Model T, such as its hood ornament, wood-stake pickup bed and folding windshield.

A bidding war for the classic kart is already underway on Bringatrailer.com, though potential buyers have until this coming Wednesday to get in on the action. The auction is no-reserve and the vehicle will be shipped from Boca Raton, Fla., according to its posting.
