Magna Millions: Magna International invests $790 million to build three Ford EV parts plants

MagnaxFord

Aurora, Ontario — Aurora, Ont.’s own Magna International signed onto three major projects with Ford this past week, bearing a nearly billion dollar price tag, to build three new electric vehicle parts plants in the U.S.

Of the three facilities slated for construction, two will be located within Ford’s BlueOval City campus in western Tennessee, while the third will build vehicle frames in Lawrenceburg, Ind.

When production eventually kicks off in 2025, Ford says it expects its BlueOval City facilities to produce up to 500,000 F-150 Lightnings, in the hope of meeting rising demand for electric pickups.

Magna, who is investing $790 million into the endeavour, says it expects to create up to 1,300 jobs when the three plants become operational.

With the recent completion of Tesla’s first Cybertruck off of its Texas assembly line, industry experts foresee an electric pickup price war kicking off between Ford, Tesla and Rivian, if it hasn’t already.
