Toronto, Ontario — In a recall to inspire parental fear across North America, Audi has recalled more than 50,000 vehicles for a defect where liquids spilled in the rear seats could cause an engine failure.

Specifically, a report to the NHTSA indicates that the affected models, Audi A6s and S6s built between 2019 and 2022, were produced without protective covers over the gateway control module.

Consequently, this could mean that liquids spilled in the rear seat area could drip into the control module, ultimately resulting in the reduction of engine power and triggering the vehicle’s limp mode.

Despite 46 reported cases in the United States, there have been no injuries or crashes linked to the defect.
