Accessible Autos: Humber College design Project Arrow concept for Canadians with disabilities

download-6

Toronto, Ontario – Four Humber College students have won this year’s Project Arrow Annual Mobility Design Competition, an annual design contest by the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association.

This year, designers created a future vehicle accessible to Canada’s disability community, with the possibility of autonomous system integration. By the end of the competition, the Humber College team developed a concept vehicle with adjusting ride height, side ramp lighting, inclusive driving controls and cockpit configurations allowing for wheelchairs.

Currently, Project Arrow is undergoing its engineering and build phase using a winning design from Carleton University in 2020. There is no plan to implement these inclusive features in ongoing or future designs.

“We engaged post-secondary students with Project Arrow. And we’re using the arrow to do an annual design competition,” said Flavio Volpe, president of APMA In an interview with Automotive News Canada. “This isn’t Arrow 2.0.”
